Qantas has announced a major boost to its international network, launching new routes from Perth to Johannesburg and Auckland, and reinstating a long-awaited direct service from Adelaide to Auckland. The move is part of the airline’s broader effort to expand global connections and improve travel options for Australians.
Perth Gains Two New International Routes
Starting in December 2025, Qantas will operate direct flights from Perth to Johannesburg and Auckland, offering travellers more convenience and faster travel times.
The Perth–Johannesburg service will begin on December 7, operating three times a week using an Airbus A330 aircraft.
The Perth–Auckland route will commence the following day, December 8, also with three weekly flights.
This marks the first time Qantas will fly from Perth to Johannesburg, offering a much-anticipated non-stop connection to South Africa. It also means a return of direct Qantas flights between Perth and Auckland, which were last operated in early 2020.
Each flight will offer a two-class configuration, including lie-flat Business Class seats and Economy Class for more than 250 passengers per flight.
Adelaide–Auckland Route Returns After 12 Years
Qantas will also reinstate its Adelaide–Auckland service, which was last operated in 2012. The seasonal service will operate four times per week starting October 31, 2025, using a Boeing 737.
This is a welcome development for South Australians, particularly those seeking more direct international options without having to transit through Sydney or Melbourne. It also connects seamlessly with Qantas’ Auckland–New York flights, making travel to the United States more accessible.
New Adelaide Business Lounge
Coinciding with the relaunch of the Adelaide–Auckland service, Qantas will also open a new Business Lounge at Adelaide Airport, designed to elevate the pre-flight experience for premium and frequent flyers.
The lounge will feature:
These international expansions were made possible with the support of federal and state governments, particularly in Western Australia, which helped provide additional resources for customs, biosecurity, and airport operations to accommodate the new flights.
A Strategic Step Forward
Qantas Domestic and International CEO Cam Wallace said the new routes are a strategic move to meet growing demand and support tourism and business links.
“Perth and Adelaide are important gateways for Australia, and these new services will make it easier for Australians to travel overseas and for visitors to explore more of our country.”
The expansion also enhances Qantas’ network with one-stop connections to New York, South Africa, and other global destinations via partner airlines.
Final Thoughts
With these new routes, Qantas is positioning itself to serve both leisure and corporate travellers better. The expanded offerings improve access to New Zealand, South Africa, and beyond—all while supporting tourism, economic growth, and stronger international ties for Australia’s western and southern regions.
For international visitors and business travellers arriving in Perth, Adelaide, or connecting through key cities, convenient and comfortable accommodation remains a priority. Providers like Corporate Keys offer fully furnished apartments ideal for short to medium stays—giving travellers a spacious, home-like environment with access to kitchen facilities, laundry, and workspaces. These accommodations are particularly suited for those relocating, on extended business trips, or travelling with family.
Travellers can begin booking these flights now through the Qantas website and participating travel agents—opening the door to a more connected and convenient travel experience across the globe.
